CHIYAH YWCA

Established in 1977 as Ashrafieh YWCA
Final Move to Chiyah in 2006

The association was established at Ashrafieh in 1977, as an extension of the Beirut YWCA. It has since grown and expanded in its service outreach to warrant the acquisition of independent premises.
To this end, the membership was actively involved in raising funds for the purchase and repair of an old school building at the center of a densely populated low-income area of Beirut.

The Chiyah YWCA building was rehabilitated in 2006 to integrate physically handicapped persons, by introducing the needed ramps and building accessories that facilitate movement for those who are interested in pursuing a vocational career.

A pre-school program is currently in progress offering KG1, KG2 and First Elementary. A well-managed day care receives babies and toddlers, ages one month to three years.

Membership Activities involve 150 committed volunteers in a variety of initiatives that focus on fundraising for scholarships
